Abstract. Al2O3–TiB2 composites were synthesized using highenergy ball milling from starting powders containing Al, TiO2, and B2O3. To explore the effect of the addition of another ductile metallic phase during milling, 15 wt.% Ni was added to a sample of the starting powders.
The weight ratio of the powders (Co., Cr, Fe, Ni, and Al) to the stainless steel balls was 15:1. The vials were filled with Nheptane to avoid metal oxidation and cold welding. The vials were put in a planetary ballmiller (QMBP, Nanjing Nanda Instrument Plant, Nanjing, China) for a total milling of 60 h at a speed of 250 rpm in argon atmosphere.
